Lighting the Sails 2An installation by Superbien, part of Vivid Sydney 2011.
This picture does not represent the true sequence of Superbien’s light animation but rather my own mash-up of moments when the Opera House sails were sparkling like diamonds.

Lighting the Sails 1An installation by Superbien, part of Vivid Sydney 2011.
This picture does not represent the true sequence of Superbien’s light animation but rather my own mash-up of moments when the Opera House sails were in full colour.
Besides the really long loop, I found that some of the light animations did not take full advantage of the distinctive shape of the Opera House, often leaving a large portion of the sails in the dark. These full coloured sails and when they were sparkling like diamonds were about the only two of my favourite moments. So what does everybody else think of Superbien’s Lighting the Sails, did the French live up to their name of being super good?

Interactive Paint ProjectionAn installation by Spinifex Group, part of Vivid Sydney 2011.
This interactive technology interprets body movements to splash colours on the building wall using light projection. It was fun to watch these two “graffiti artist” jumping and waving their hands to make it looks like buckets of colourful paints have been thrown on to the museum. It was definitely one of the highlights of the festival.

MirazozoA luminarium by Alan Parkinson of Architects of Air.
Mirazozo is like a spaceship, a maze filled with colour and lights that feels so out of this world. The tranquil space shows the beauty of colours both in isolation and when they interact with each other.
